From the ACLU blog of the Dover creationism versus reality trial, day 2. The witness was Kenneth Miller, a biologist at Brown and author of a widely used biology textbook.

The questioning, then, jumped to a discussion on NASA and its search for extra terrestrial life life, as well as questions about whether Miller felt Crick's theory contained supernatural undercurrents. Muise appeared to be implying that other credible scientists have made statements that could be interpretted as having some elements tied to the supernatural.

When questioned about this in the plaintiff's redirect, Miller stated "just because scientists say something doesn't make it scientific."

That last comment was the favorite of the day at dinner last night, courtesy of Boomy, who is a historian of science.

After some ravenous instant messaging I met Boomy, and later Brand Ave, in Hahvahd Squayh, for delicious Thai food. We wolfed down our curries and noodles and talked about serious things for a bit, and then went to a dessert restaurant the next street over and had drinks and molten chocolate cake with three kinds of gelato.

Crap, that last part should be in verse. Let me revise. Ahem.

Thai noodles, curry, and fresh greenbeans too
With coconut milk and fried chunks of tofu;
We greet you, we eat you, and when we are through
We divvy the bill up and bid you adieu.

Then chocolate tempts us and give in we do.
The wine list is given judicious review.
Smooth gelato and cake that is like a fondue-
Rather expensive, but most cordon bleu.

My wine was a sweet one, an apricot hue.
Boomy had red, as she is wont to do
Brand had Chimay - a little frou-frou-
Ah, delicious comestibles! I do so love you!

By the middle of dessert we were all a little punchy - or at least I was - with the curry and chocolate induced endorphins, the whole weight of Wednesday, the sweet wines and Chimay. Conversation turned from world events to how stupid some guy's shirt was and how annnoying the faux-witty ads in the T station are. (The stupid shirt was a striped button down with various humanoid figures silk-screened on it. I felt violated by the hideousness of that shirt.)

It's nice to have friends who can be serious and stupid in the course of an evening, and still be interesting and fun to hang out with. It's also nice to meet for dinner on a random Wednesday instead of being in the lab or crawling to the futon and curling up in a little ball and eating cereal for dinner (although that is okay sometimes).

Wow....verse no less.

And, it must be said, by far NOT the worst poetry I've ever seen on the web...
