Deism?

From my point of view, it's incompatible with scientific materialism - or whatever - to think of there being a divine entity that exists outside of the actual world, as gods are considered to be in the Western tradition. However, I don't think it is necessarily opposed to reductionism to consider that there could be a . . . force, or spirit, or something that IS the universe, rather than being seperate from the universe. The more Eastern view of the divine sets aside difficult theological questions like, "At what point did the creator stop interfering" or "How come God isn't being nicer to me, if he's such a nice guy?" I think those are facile questions.
